My Open Letter to Students
Together, we’re beginning a new relationship and experience, and I’m certain that you’re thinking and feeling a lot. I am too. Juniors may be feeling motivated yet dreadful, because they know that this school year is an important one academically. Adults won’t allow you to forget with their daily reminders that, “If you plan to go to college, the most important grades on your transcript will be the ones from your junior year.” Seniors may be feeling motivated too, but they may be more interested in focusing their efforts on flaunting their seniority and creating an epic year for themselves and their closest friends. As for me, one of your (new) teachers, I am eager to create a successful school year with you since spending SY2014-15 supporting teaching and learning outside of the classroom as an Instructional Observer.
No matter the course (Child Development, Homeroom, Human Relations, Independent Living), we will work together to create a community for learning – a place where all of us are encouraged to reach our highest potential. Not only will our knowledge base and skill set be supported and strengthened, but the content in our character will be too. This is my purpose as an educator: To support you in being your version of brilliant and the best human being. I also want you to recognize and accept that you are as much a teacher as you are a student; you will teach me because I am not all-knowing. I believe that movement/change is life, and I will never stop learning and growing.
Your learning and well-being are important to me, and I ask you to trust that I will do my very best everyday to ensure that you’re creating the reality that you want. I look forward to working with you.
