I'm almost a month late in reflecting on one of two trainings for which Coaches were responsible over the last two months, but I am where I am. We wanted to facilitate engagement with the Danielson Framework, so that teacher understanding of how to use the tool to impact student learning could further and deepen.
A strength of the lesson was that students (teachers) did their own learning, by collaborating with their peers in a Card Sort Activity, as well as creating a Frayer Model together. We frequently hear "whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning" in our own training as Coaches, so it felt really good to hear teachers' voices about their practice.
Interestingly, we put Danielson into practice too when we adjusted the lesson impromptu in response to the needs of the students (teachers).
Student (teacher) evaluations of the training showed that the learning outcomes of both activities were met (i.e., All but two participant gave a rating of 4 or 5 on a 5-point scale). All but one participant left the training with a deeper understanding of the Danielson Framework for Teaching too, by marking either "Agree" or "Strongly agree". Consequently, I believe the activities are valid and effective.
