My first week as an instructional coach was spent establishing a few processes to stay organized and efficient this year. Together, the team and I developed a Google Form, Coaching Log, and a Coaches Meeting Notes (see below). The purpose of the Google Form was to gather information about the teachers that we'll be supporting, and I believe it was effective in asking those "big" questions that we may not feel comfortable asking before a relationship is even built, like "How do you feel about working with an instructional coach [me]?" Allow me to be candid, some faculty members will always be "that guy in meetings that's always grading students' work (and not paying attention)". The form allowed us to feel safe enough to ask, and allows the faculty to feel safe enough to answer. If you're curious, many of the teachers answered with 3 (5 being very interested). The Coaching Log will track our footprints each day at work, so it's a way to verify that we are being productive (or at least trying to be) - stay tuned for an upcoming post. The Coaches Meeting Notes will help the team and I think through teachers' goals and progress, so that we can think critically about their needs, which may be ever-changing.
