My bedtime routine involves Pinterest, and I collected this "pin" from a stranger's "Sayings" board. Not only are these qualities important in teaching and learning, but they are necessary human relations skills.
I've attached an example of how the Tuning Process has been implemented in one of my courses, and it's a peer review process. I learned this process by participating in one within a small learning community on campus, and it was facilitated by Kehau Glassco and Sarah Razee. I learned firsthand how this process is effective in stimulating students' minds, hands, and voices. Collaboration unfolds beautifully! I find the process empowering for students, because they take ownership of their work when it's discussed (versus someone just reading and filling out a rubric)! I believe the process can find a home in your classroom no matter the course. In the attachment, I highlighted the purpose, roles, process, and tasks in yellow on page one.
I'm in the process of building my Google+ account, and I decided to follow Edutopia. Already, several relevant and timely topics and resources have been shared. Alternative Formative Assessments (AFA) check student understanding in non-traditional ways. Fifty-three strategies are described, and you can download them below so that you can cherry-pick those that best fit your content and instructional style.
